Job Description

A plumber, also known as a pipefitter, installs, repairs, and maintains plumbing systems in residential, commercial, and industrial buildings: 

 
 
  • Installation: Install pipework in new construction or retrofit existing plumbing systems 
     
  •  
  • Repair: Fix broken pipes and drains 
     
  •  
  • Maintenance: Maintain plumbing systems, including sanitation units, health systems, sinks, and toilets 
     
  •  
  • Design: Assess and design plumbing systems to ensure compliance with local rules and regulations 
     
  • Pipework: Measure, cut, bend, and thread pipes to length 
     
  •  
  • Joints: Weld joins to create leak-free junctions 
     
  •  
  • Connections: Cut holes in walls and floors to accommodate pipes and fittings 
     
  •  
  • Testing: Inspect and test pipes for leaks 
     
  •  
  • Tools: Use hand and power tools or machines to measure, cut, bend, and thread pipes 
     
  •  
  • Joining: Join pipes with couplings, clamps, screws, bolts, or cement
